The EDGE Lab conducts research in the intersections of
Engineering, Design &
Global Equity
Our world faces immense challenges in global health inequity. We cannot solve global problems without accounting for the complex systems that created them, and we must center those who are most affected by these issues as we seek to create solutions. To address global health inequities, we need creative solutions, and design is a promising approach to call to task. In the EDGE Lab, we study how engineering design processes can develop solutions to address complex global challenges.
Research in the EDGE Lab has two primary aims:
(1) to apply engineering design to improve global health equity, and
(2) to advance the methods and tools of equitable engineering design.
Approach
Observe design in practice as it is applied to address health equity
Develop frameworks and processes of design for health equity
Apply and evaluate frameworks and processes of design for health equity
Research areas
-
We investigate, develop, and evaluate design methods and tools for social justice and global health equity applications.
-
We develop curricula and tools for training design practitioners in addressing social justice and global health equity challenges.
-
We evaluate the impact of design in improving social justice and global health outcomes.
Team
The EDGE Lab is composed of curious, equity-minded, and committed researchers. If you are passionate about studying the role of design in addressing global health inequity, we would love to hear from you.
